My interests include the political history of antiquity and the intellectual history of late modern Europe. My thesis deals with the way in which the political structure of the Third French Republic influenced the development of anti-Semitism in the country in the early twentieth century.

I am interested in modern history, popular culture and consumer culture. In my research I look at East German cinema as a site of negotiation, and through it ask questions about the relationship between entertainment and propaganda and between a personal agency for governance and supervision.

My field of research is magic and its uses in everyday life, and focuses mainly on 13th century France. In my work I explore the connections between magic, religion, worship and science in the Middle Ages among Jews and Christians.
